Trivium is an industry-leading provider of innovative and sustainable packaging solutions. Formed in 2019 as a result of a merger, the company has a global presence – with plants across almost 60 locations and over 7,000 employees – and amasses an annual revenue of $3.3bn. Sustainability is at the heart of Trivium’s vision, with the company primarily focused on metal packaging production, a material that can be infinitely recycled. Deepening its commitment to sustainability even further, the company also has an Operational Excellence programme and environmental management systems to continuously drive efficiency improvements across the organisation. This commitment is reflected in Trivium securing a Platinum ranking by EcoVadis for the third year in a row, the highest ranking in the 2024 EcoVadis sustainability ratings.
With ambitions of becoming a world leader in metal packaging, Trivium first needed to make key transformations to its approach to learning and reporting globally.
Results
Standardised and multilingual global learning
By the end of 2023, more than 8,000 courses in various formats and languages were available to Trivium employees, providing a myriad of learning opportunities across both technical and non-technical subjects. In addition, when a new employee joins the company, they are automatically assigned 10 standardised learning modules in their language of choice as part of their onboarding journey.
An automated solution that ensures compliance
Trivium can now automatically manage and schedule, training for thousands of employees in multiple languages across the globe. With Trivium operating in a heavily regulated industry, the number of trainings being completed has made auditing easier for both individual plants, and for the organisation as a whole.
Holistic employee development
Trivium launched its Capability Building Programme to develop employees’ skill sets in everything from general and leadership skills to specific technical skills. As a result, the programme achieved 1,060 participation enrolments, with 592 unique employees having been trained through both virtual and face-to-face learning. Trivium also launched its global Leadership Essentials programme, and has trained over 300 managers since its rollout.
Increased employee satisfaction and proactivity
Trivium’s work with Cornerstone has been a catalyst for improved employee satisfaction around training. Its Capability Building Programme has achieved satisfaction rates of over 4.5 out of 5; employees have also communicated the value of Trivium University as a whole to the business. There has also been a significant increase in the demand for custom-made e-learnings from the business to be made available in the LMS. Overall, learning has become so popular across the organisation that employees are now being waitlisted to access certain trainings.
A revamped content strategy
Trivium purchased Cornerstone’s Content Anytime (CCA) subscription to deliver award-winning, premium learning content to its workforce. This year, Trivium will focus on promoting CCA content to develop skills that would enable strategic initiatives across regions; content will also be integrated into various development programmes.
Retaining platinum status
Working with Cornerstone brought Trivium’s reporting to a global level, which played a role in the company retaining its Platinum EcoVadis status; Trivium is one of the 2% of organisations that have successfully achieved this. Additionally, the company’s senior stakeholders can now access and draw from standardised reports at any given moment.
